Because we are talking portraits here, we are going to need some proof of the genuineness of the submissions.
For each photo entered, you must submit a colour version of the same model, in the same photo shoot holding a sign that says "I love Elftown" or a computer monitor displaying ET in the background, etc.

2006-11-30 [Yuriona]: The contests are for everyone to enjoy moira but that means that everyone who wants to enter MUST follow the rules. That way the contest is fair for everyone. No exceptions. You have had multiple council members tell you that is what the rules are and that they must be followed. If you can't follow the rules, then don't enter the contest. Don't clutter up the comment section with futile attempts to convince the council to bend the rules just for you. You don't like the rules then don't enter the contest. You should have read ALL of the rules before taking the photos for the contest and not just the one for theme.

If you read the rules, THEN took the pics, why didn't you just make a quick sign for one of the pics? Your two pictures seem to be taken in completely different places at completely different times.

It looks like you took the picture with a webcam, which makes the lighting pretty bad. This contest is about photography, we want a bit more effort put into the pictures than webcam images usually take.
Secondly, the background shows some kind of weaponry that I don't deem very Hollywood-ish nor glamorous.
The only thing that could be considered following the theme are the roses.

If you ask us if it is allowed, then we will say you should take the proofpicture during the actual photoshoot.
We didn't consider that people would submit old pictures with new proofphoto's.

In the case of [Apus]' entry the autograph is really nifty, but the colours of the image don't seem like the B&W of those days.

If we are going to be really strict then [Apus]'s entry violates the criteria as much as the other entries do, just in a different way.

[Atayemi], there are a few problems with your entry:
- You took the picture before the contest and added the proofpicture afterwards.
- If considered strictly then your picture doesn't truly fit the Hollywood glamour theme.
Look at it this way: Would a random person looking at your picture immediately see that the picture is meant to reflect the Hollywood glamour of the 30's-60's?
When I look at your picture, I wouldn't have guessed that that is what you tried to do :(

I took the proof picture straight after my main entry as well. Plus, I wasn't around in the 30s and 60s so I wouldn't know. That's fair enough. So it isn't following the theme? I'll remove it myself, then. I give up trying to enter this contest now. Sorry.

We gave examples of pictures from around that time actually, and there are plenty to find on Google. Try to search for Marylin Monroe for instance :)

To enter this contest you have to submit a new picture combined with a proofpicture taken during the same photoshoot.
This has two reasons:
- The proofphoto shows that the picture is yours.
- Both pictures have to be new, because we want you to make your entries especially for this theme. The picture should clearly show that you thought about the theme and how you want to reflect this.
You can not have done this before the contest, because you didn't know of it then. Turning an old picture into B&W doesn't automatically make it glamorous or Hollywood stylish.
I shall add a note about this on the rules page, so that there will be no more confusion.
2006-12-02 [xerya]: The sepia tones [Apus] used were certainly used in Hollywood during the era. Whether or not they are considered to be a subcategory of B&W photography (as they were B&W photos, just developed differently for longer preservation) or a separate category can be argued. I'd love to see a conclusive statement on the use of them from the council, as I was considering on experimenting with sepia tones myself :)

Anyway, that is what you should hold in account when creating the picture: Is the theme recognisable in your entry?
2006-12-02 [Kyrinn]: Sepia can be used for that holloywood effect, I suppose, its kinda in that grey area between color and black and white. I think what [Sunrose] is meaning is that just taking any color picture and putting it into graytones (or sepia, in this case) does not make it glamorous. the setting, the mood, and the model would do that.
